It’s Missionary Monday and today I am spotlighting Mark & Deanna Meyer. While I have not personally met Mark, I have communicated with him several times. Mark has some Awana memorabilia that he sells to raise funds for events like Returning Hearts Celebration. Since I enjoy vintage Awana items, I got some memorabilia from him. I still hope to get some more 🙂 Visit his ministry web site and click on the Items of Interest link on the left side to see some of the items he has available.
We’re highlighting Mark this week because he was recommended by someone in his territory who suggested it, partly because he has a birthday this week! So take a minute and wish him a Happy Birthday!
I asked Mark some questions and below is his response:
What area do you serve? Arizona
How long have you been an Awana Missionary? 4-1/2 years
# of churches under your care: 152
Fun Facts: Favorite food, favorite sport, something interesting people don’t know about you, etc….
Mark’s favorite food is French fries, Deanna’s is lobster. We both enjoy most sports and our favorite teams are Thee Ohio State Buckeyes and Denver Broncos. Another interesting fact is Mark is an avid collector of Awana memorabilia and sells items on behalf of Art Rorheim to benefit such causes as “Returning Hearts Celebration”!
Why are you an Awana Missionary?
Because this is what God called us to do. God started preparing us to serve as Awana missionaries as we served on Alaska Missionary Dan & Geraldine Bylsma’s ministry team, serving as the Alaskan Interior Coordinators. Serving in that capacity, we had the opportunity to train leaders, present Awana to new churches and prepare for AwanaGames, Sparks-a-Rama and Bible Quiz. It was a great opportunity to really see what an Awana missionary is partly responsible for and all the preparation that must take place behind the scenes to make everything a success.
Share something God is doing in your ministry
God is stirring the hearts of churches to use Awana as the tool to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Fifteen churches in Arizona have started Awana since July!
How can we specifically pray for you over the next month?
Financial needs are near the top of the list. We are currently 76% supported for calendar year 2010. We also have a great need for people to step up and serve on the ministry team. We also will be hosting the first Commander College 101 to be held in Arizona and we pray that many commanders will be a part of it.
