I was recently provided with an advance screening copy of Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9. The latest video project from Phil Vischer to help parents teach their children the things of God. Here is the description of the video from their website:
Buck Denver has a simple dream – to save the galaxy. Working for the Galactic Mission Board, Buck dreams of carrying God’s love to every corner of the Milky Way! Except he doesn’t have a starship. Or a crew. Or even a captain’s license. He just needs a chance.
But when that chance comes and Buck finds himself leading a real mission into deep space, things don’t go at ALL like he imagined!
If he’s doing what God wants him to do, why is everything going wrong?!?
Using the cast of characters from the well received What’s in the Bible Series, Phil uses a Star Trek like theme to help Buck Denver understand an important lesson about following God.
What I liked:
- The video is fast paced and full of the usual twists and turns as Buck seeks to fulfill his mission.
- There are several Biblical lessons that can be initiated from the video.
What I didn’t like:
- The goal is to take the Gospel to the galaxy. The Bible says Jesus came to die for mankind, who God created on earth. If there were aliens in space, there is nothing in Scripture that tells us that they need Jesus. Though as man explores space, God is there and mankind needs to acknowledge Him where ever they find themselves. One could say that we do need to boldly go where no man has gone before (on Earth) to share Jesus.
- There is a small bit of “potty humor” in the beginning; but admittedly, the children will laugh at it.
Take a minute and watch the trailer…..
This is a great video to have for a family night to talk about God.
I give it 3.75 stars out of 5 for family entertainment and Biblical lessons.

Thank you for the review. Our club already has the 13 complete bible series DVDs and “Why Do They Call It Christmas?” I plan to purchase this one as well. We rotate all of them as a part of our optional pre-Awana “dinner and a movie” activity.
