This is not an Awana event and so Awana does not provide any resources for the Raingutter Regatta, or as it is also known, Float-a-Boat.
One place to get the kits to build the boat is from Scout Stuff. Here’s a link to the kit itself or go to http://www.scoutstuff.org, and then do a search for raingutter.
Here is information from a local Commander about how they put together their boat kits:
Our kits include:
(Everything can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes)
- (2) 3/4” x 1” x 6” pieces of pine
- (2) 3/4” x 4” pieces of screen bead
(Some year’s we’ve put in 3 pieces of this.) - (2) 1/4” x 6” dowel rod
- (12) 1/2” brad nails
- (1) 4.5” x 4.5” flexible expansion joint
Our finished boats can’t be wider than 4″ or longer than 6″. It’s just the rules we’ve set.
Some clubs do theirs differently — make boats out of foam or balsa wood. We do a catamaran design, some use a hydroplane design.
