This week I was planning on writing about various aspects of the birth of Christ and provide encouragement for you, the Awana leader. Those plans changed suddenly Tuesday afternoon when I received word that my mother had died suddenly, unexpectedly.
She was a vibrant woman of 78 years of age. I had just chatted with her on FaceBook Tuesday morning (a rare occurrence) talking about the plans for the New Year’s family get together. Her passing took us all by surprise.
It is interesting that over the last few weeks I have been sharing with people to remember those who have lost loved ones recently, or in the last year, as this can be a difficult time for them. Little did I know that I was preparing people for what my family would be facing.
This will be my last blog post for the week as I tend to my family during this time. Please keep me and my family in your prayers, as this will be a very difficult Christmas for all of us. We do rest in the knowledge that her passing was quick and that she is now at home with Jesus.
Thank you for your support during this time, and I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas!

Bill,
I am so very sorry for your loss. My Mom died last August, and my Dad passed three years before that. I will keep you and your family in prayer during this difficult time.

Hey Bill, I know how you feel. I lost my mom 1 1/2 years ago. As with your mom, our loss but Heaven’s gain! May Jesus comfort and strengthen you and yours at this time.

Bill,
Words cannot express what we’re feeling … but the Lord knows — and he’s there holding you and your family.
This time last year my father-in-law passed away … but that wasn’t a surprise since he’d been fighting cancer for a while. But this is the first Christmas since my daughter died last spring — and nothing is the same. Hold onto your family — and let the Lord’s strength help you through this.

Bill, my mother passed away this last summer after a very short illness. I know what you are going through and can tell you that God will faithfully carry you and your family through this.

Praying for you & your family. Praying for God’s peace & comfort. It is not easy, whether it is sudden or expected. But our God is faithful to those who love Him.
