I do not travel via airplanes that much. In fact, it is very seldom. The last time I flew was well before the attacks on 9/11/2001 and security is quite a bit different than what I experienced the last time I flew.
So as I prepared for my trip to Awana for the Blogger Summit, I sought guidance via Facebook from “seasoned” flyers so that my trip would hopefully be uneventful. I sought people with more knowledge to help me on my journey, and it worked!
It is important to seek counsel from people with more knowledge and experience.
The one thing that always makes an impression on me when I fly is how insignificant man really is in the “big picture”. Like Isaiah 40:22 says,
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;…Isaiah 40:22a (ESV)
We are like grasshoppers! I wonder if grasshoppers think that they control the world? I wonder if grasshoppers think they understand the vastness of the earth alone? Yet man seems to do just that. How arrogant can man be to think they know and control the earth! Our prayer, and thoughts should be like the Psalmist who wrote:
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?Psalms 8:3-4 (ESV)
We should be in amazement of what God has made, and that He cares for us, a seemingly insignificant being in the “big picture”. Yet as the group Sidewalk Prophets puts it so well in song, “He loves me anyway.” As insignificant as we may seem, with the arrogance we have thinking we have an understanding of His creation, and with the many times we have rejected, or pushed Him aside…. He still loves us and died on a cross for us, while we were still disobedient to Him. We may seem insignificant from the view of an airplane, but for God, we are worth dying for…..
Here are some of the lyrics of that song…
….
I am a thorn in Your crown
But You love me anyway
I am the sweat from Your brow
But You love me anyway
I am the nail in Your wrist
But You love me anyway
I am Judas’ kiss
But You love me anywaySee now, I am the man who yelled out from the crowd
For Your blood to be spilled on this earth shaking ground
Yes then I turned away with the smile on my face
With this sin in my heart tried to bury Your grace
And then alone in the night I still called out for You
So ashamed of my life, my life, my life
But You love me anyway
Oh, God, how you love me
Yes, You love me anyway
It’s like nothing in life that I’ve ever known
Yes, You love me anyway…..
How about you? Do you know that God loves you, no matter how insignificant, or unworthy, you may feel? He does….
