The “kidmin” (children’s ministry) community seems to have grown and bonded over the last few years in an innovative way. In the kidmin community, I believe that I am seen as the “Awana” guy and not a “generalist” in kidmin like others. Most of the interactions that I have had with other kidmin people have been on-line though I have met a few in person. With these interactions, you can get a feel for their hearts for serving. I want to give a shout out to one of them today.
This person is someone that I have not met personally, though one day I hope to do so. Even though I have not met this person face to face, I consider them a friend. This individual has a heart not only to reach kids, but to encourage those who walk the path with him. I have chatted with him on line, viewed his live video feeds from CPC and other conferences, even his concession “speech” when the San Diego Chargers humiliated the Denver Broncos.
He is seen as one of the “big” respected guys in kidmin and he frequently re-tweets my tweets referencing posts on this site. It is encouraging (and humbling) to know that people like Karl Bastian, the Kidologist, take the time to read my blog and share it with others. So I want to give a shout out to Karl, thanking him for his support, encouragement and on-line friendship.
If you don’t know Karl, or his ministry, then I encourage you to check out his many on-line presences:

Hey! Thanks for the “Shout Out” – my ears are buzzin’ LOL Appreciate the kind words. And I don’t view you as just an Awana guy but a good thinker and writer in your right which is why I enjoy sharing your posts and helping spread your good stuff via my sphere of influence. I certainly know what its like to get pigeon holed to a nitche. Both of us have a “name” that defines us a bit – Kidologist = kid stuff; CommanderBill = Awana, but we both know there is a lot more to us than that. I try to use my blog to show that, tho I did learn I had to steer away from politics, people couldn’t handle that, so I safely have an anonymous blog/twitter account no one (except the smart and savvy) know is me.
I too look forwardto meeting in person someday and hope its THIS side of Glory! I also feel like I know ya well!
Commander Bill
Thanks for your comments Karl. Yea, sometimes we can feel “typecast” like Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies… but people who know us do know our hearts and there’s more than “meets the eye”.
Again, thanks for your thoughts, you deserve the “shout out”.
