The event is called Summit and it is the pinnacle of a clubber’s time in Awana. This is where high school students participating in Awana from around the country gather to compete in various events and celebrate their accomplishment in Awana. There is the celebration of those who have earned their Citation Award and the award is presented to them during the weekend in a special ceremony. Throughout the weekend there are also other activities including Bible Quizzing, AwanaGames, Volleyball, Fine Arts, etc.
I have not yet attended a Summit event, though I am making plans to attend next year (trying to save vacation time, funds, etc.). I have heard many great things from missionaries, commanders, and participants.
If you thought that Awana ended after a child completed 5th or 6th grade (T&T), then you are mistaken and I encourage you to look at the 24-7 Ministries arm of Awana (Trek & Journey). As a youth continues to complete the required items for the awards each year, they not only learn and grow in the Lord, but there are also several colleges that offer scholarships to those who progress through Awana.
So this weekend is Summit weekend. Please pray for those who are participating, as well as those who are organizing and running the event. If you want to see a group of youth dedicated to the Lord, then Summit is where you want to be. I hope to see you there next year!!
If you are attending Summit, then lease post a comment and share your experiences.
