February 15, 2020
Last fall when Awana was in the midst of the distribution issues, I called for a day of prayer for Awana on September 30th. That day was well received. Afterward I wondered if it was something that should become an annual event and I even had some ask me if I would do it again.
The question became, what date should it be held?
The initial day of prayer was in response to a specific event that was occurring. Should that day be maintained, or another? There were so many options. Recently, as I was talking to someone about the day of prayer, and if I should make it an annual event, I was inspired to make the annual day of prayer February 15th.
It is not a random date.
February 15th was selected because its numeric form is 2.15. The name AWANA was originally an acronym which stood for “Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed”. This comes directly from 2 Timothy 2:15.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (KJV)
Using 2.15 as the date brings us back to the foundation upon which Awana® was built.
The theme of the 1st Annual International Day of Prayer will be RESILIENT.
This will keep with the focus of Awana as they released the book Resilient: Child Discipleship and the Fearless Future of the Church. You can purchase a copy on Amazon here.
I will be communicating with Awana and working on a prayer guide as well as some promotional flyers, etc to help you spread the word about the day of prayer.
Please help spread the word about this 1st Annual International Day of Prayer for Awana.
Information on the International Day of Prayer will be located here.
